On the second to last day of seventh grade, I had a seizure in front of the entire school. I was rushed to the hospital where I discovered I had a brain tumor. I was then transported to Rush University where I would undergo emergency brain surgery to remove the tumor. Due to the Lord's grace, it was quickly removed and was non-cancerous. Within a week I was home safely and on my way to recovery.
That was almost exactly 6 years ago when I had an unusual episode yesterday where I experienced numbness and slurred speech. I ended up going to the emergency room to run a brain scan just to be sure everything was alright. As I waited for the results, I broke down crying in fear multiple times imagining having to go through the surgery again. The doctor came into the room and I received the all clear. I immediately began crying tears of joy and thanked God for His faithfulness.
Although I am strong in my faith, I was scared of my body failing me. But on the way home from the hospital Elevation Worship's "Give Me Faith" came on the radio.
"Give me faith to trust what You say,
that You're good and Your love is great,
I'm broken inside I give You my life.
I may be weak,
But your spirit is strong in me.
My flesh may fail,
but My God you never will."
God promises each and every one of us that He is in ultimate control of our lives.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." [Jeremiah 29:11]
Have I not commanded you?Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. [Joshua 1:9]
In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. [Job 12:10]
I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. [Philippians 4:13]
Maybe your faith is not as strong as you believe it should be, and that's okay. Through my experience of doubt and fear I am now longing to enter into God's word and live through His promises.
Along with the verses above, check out Luke 12:22-31 and learn to rely on God completely.
